Last Minute San Diego Holiday Festivities

Like I have been saying all season long, I am so late with everything this year. I figured if you are having a year that has been anything like mine then you would appreciate an update on what is still going on for the holidays here in San Diego. I also, sprinkled in a few pictures of our Christmas decor. I hope you enjoy!

Grabbing a Starbucks and cruising around town to see lights are always a must for us. The best part about this holiday tradition is that it requires zero planning. Our favorite stops in our area are Candy Cane Lane in Poway (12612 Stoutwood St., Poway, CA 92064) and Christams Card Lane in Rancho Penasquitos (9106 Ellingham St, San Diego, CA 92129). If you are closer to the downtown area and looking for light viewing with a bit more involved, The Hotel Del Coronado (1500 Orange Ave, Coronado, CA 92118) does a whole display called DELights and it is pretty spectacular! In the north county coastal city of Encinitas, the San Diego Botanic Gardens (230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024) have been completely transformed into a winter wonderland. It is a really fun time of year to visit the gardens but they are gorgeous year round as well.

Another favorite thing of mine to do during the holiday season is take in a play or two. My all time favorite for the family is How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park. This play is always very whimsical and done so well with a mixed cast of adults and kids. I mean, these kids are downright impressive. Side note: Kids under the age of three are only allowed to attend the 11 AM performances. We also love eating at the Prado in Balboa Park. The food is delicious, there is a great view and it is just a quick stroll over to the theater after. Tickets are still available for showtimes this week but they are a bit scarce so I would jump on it if I were you.

On friday we went to the Cygnet Theater to see A Christmas Carol and it was phenomenal. The cast was limited and they all played a bunch of parts which was incredibly impressive and seamless. If you have not seen this show here I highly recommend it.

If you are looking to fill an entire day The San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Legoland all do spectacular jobs on their Christmas decor and fun holiday spirit throughout the parks. They will definitely be busy this week, but what isn't busy around this time?

If you are still itching for a bit more Christmas fun once the day has actually come and gone, the Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade is on December 27th at 10 AM. It is a nice event to bridge your holiday season between Christmas and New Year's Eve. It is full of marching bands, floats and has the largest installment of balloons in the nation.

I hope your day is as beautiful as you are!
